11+ practice that feels like a game

Arcade-style 11+ reasoning practice for ages 7–11. Synonyms, cloze, letter sequences, and harder vocabulary — Year 4 through Year 6.

The 11+ exam is used by selective grammar schools and independent schools across the UK to test verbal, numerical, and reasoning skills at the end of Year 6. The verbal element — synonyms, fill-in-the-blank cloze, letter sequences, hidden words, vocabulary stretch — is where most children find they need practice that their school year doesn’t cover.

Puzzitron blends 11+-style verbal practice with the cognitive-ability foundation that helps it stick. As your child progresses, the picker quietly tilts toward more 11+ content (and ramps the timer up from no-pressure to real exam pacing). Adults can pin the style to 11+ only at any point.

Free during the beta. No subscription. Calibrated for Year 4 through Year 6.

  • Verbal-rich content. Synonyms, cloze fill-in, letter pattern sequences, harder vocabulary. The skills 11+ verbal sections lean on.
  • Year 4 → Year 6 ramp. Difficulty plus content style auto-tilts up as your child grows in the app. No need to manually pick a "level".
  • Timer that ramps. No pressure first; soft timer with a 60-second pause button next; real exam pacing only once your child is confident.
  • Game, not workbook. Eight CAT4 sub-tests + three new 11+ types. Ten rings, a vault to fill, themes to unlock.
  • Safe by default. No ads, no third-party trackers where your child plays, UK/EU hosted, ICO Children’s Code aligned.

11+ verbal types covered

All three 11+-style additions are in the bank today, alongside the four CAT4 batteries.

Synonyms

"Which word means the same as rapid?" Verbal-reasoning vocabulary practice pitched at a strong 9–11 year old.

Cloze (fill-in-the-blank)

Sentence with one word missing. Distractors are clearly wrong on meaning, word class, or grammar — no "two answers fit" frustration.

Letter sequences

"A C E G ?" or "AB CD EF ?" — the pattern-completion sub-test that 11+ exams lean on heavily.

Plus all 4 CAT4 batteries

Verbal classification, verbal analogies, number series, number analogies, figure classification, matrices, recognition and analysis. The CAT4 foundation that 11+ verbal builds on.

Frequently asked

Will this actually help with the 11+ exam?
It practises the same kinds of reasoning the 11+ verbal section uses (synonyms, cloze, letter sequences, vocabulary stretch). It is NOT a predictor of exam outcomes — it's regular, low-pressure practice that builds familiarity with the question types your child will face. For exam-specific timing and format drilling, supplement with a 6-week-out tutor or workbook closer to the exam.
Is this the real 11+?
No. Puzzitron is a private practice game using 11+-style questions, not affiliated with any specific 11+ exam provider (CEM, GL Assessment, ISEB, school admissions consortia etc.). Different schools use different 11+ formats; Puzzitron covers the verbal-reasoning skills common to most.
What year groups is it suitable for?
Year 3 through Year 6 (ages 7–11). The content tilts toward 11+-style as your child progresses — younger / newer children see mostly CAT4-style; older / longer-tenure children get the 11+ stretch. Adults can override at any point.
Is it free?
Yes — completely free during the beta. An enhanced paid version (one-off payment, no subscription) is coming; the free tier won't be crippled.
How does the CAT4-vs-11+ blend work?
Three modes, set per child by the adult: CAT4 only / 11+ only / Mix (recommended). Mix automatically ramps from CAT4-heavy at signup to 11+-heavy after 3 years on the platform — younger children see practice that builds the foundation; older / longer-tenure children see content closer to where they're heading.
What about my child's data?
Minimum data needed for the app to work — first name, three-word handle, hashed PIN, practice history. No third-party trackers where your child plays. UK/EU hosted. Soft-delete with 30-day restore; hard-delete cascades through everything we hold.
